Mt Hyak (3,475ft) and Ski Acres Hill (4,200ft)
Dec 4, 2020
Snoqualmie Pass resort had just partially opened, but the Hyak area was still closed. That area sounded perfect to get some exercise away from other people. I drove up friday morning, passing a very crowded main area of the ski resort, and pulled into the empty parking lot below Mt Hyak.
I quickly started skinning up. The slope was icy with very thin snow coverage, but enough to be fun. I passed a few other skiers skinning up and then topped out on Mt Hyak. I then skied down the back side and continued on groomed roads heading northwest. I eventually left the road at its highpoint just east of Surveyors Lake and started bushwhacking through open forest.
Skinning up the steep icy slopes was tricky but I eventually reached the summit of Ski Acres Hill around noon. I ate a quick lunch then skied back through the trees to the road. I switched to skins and skinned all the way back up to Mt Hyak again, then skied down the steep icy slope back to my car.
