Mt Washington and Franconia Ridge

Mt Washington and Franconia Ridge

On the summit of Mt Washington

Sept 6-7, 2024

Eric, Matthew and Jake

Matthew and I flew to Boston Friday morning, rented a car, and we all drove up to Franconia Notch. We had a fun hike up the Franconia Ridge loop. I hadn’t done this in about 10 years. We camped out that night then hiked up Mt Washington the next morning. We hiked up Huntington Ravine and found ice deep in the boulder field. This is one of the few places on the east coast that reliably hold snow/ice year round (the others I know of are Mahoosuc Notch in Maine and King Ravine near Mt Adams).

Apparantly we made good time, since on Strava it looked like we were within 1 minute of the speed record up the ravine (if we had known this in advance we might have sped up since we just went normal speed).

We waited in line for a summit picture then descended Tuckerman Ravine back to Pinkham Notch.

This is my 34th time climbing Mt Washington.
